The Chase United MileagePlus Explorer credit card is a great introductory card. The annual fee for the 1st year is $0 and $95 the year’s after.
With the current signup offer, you get 40,000 bonus miles after you spend $2,000 in the first 3 months after your account is open. I’ve listed a few of the benefits I’ve found most useful.
Free first checked bag - save up to $120 per roundtrip
This is an instant $120 savings back in your pocket if you book a flight for yourself and one travel companion. Baggage fees are $30 for the 1st bag.
Priority boarding
The primary cardmember and companions on the same reservation will be invited to board United-operated flights prior to general boarding. You’ll notice a separate priority boarding lane at the gate. This is useful to board the flight first for overhead carry-on baggage space.
(2) United Club one-time passes each anniversary – over a $100 value
This is a great way to have free access to an airport lounge. You’ll have access to free WI-FI, house beer and wine, and refreshments. The passes are subject to expire, so you must use them within the year.
Up to $100 Global Entry Fee Credit
With the amount of international traveling you are about to do, there is no reason why you shouldn't have Global Entry. Receive a statement credit for up to $100 every 4 years as reimbursement for the application fee for Global Entry. Once approved for Global Entry, you'll also have TSA Pre-check. If you already have this perk from another credit card, you are able to gift this to someone else. Just pay for it on your United card.
25% back on United inflight purchases
25% back as a statement credit on purchases of food, beverages, and Wi-Fi onboard United-operated flights when you pay with your Explorer Card.
No foreign transaction fees
Purchases made with your Explorer Card outside the U.S. will not be subject to foreign transaction fees.
Exclusive award travel flight options
Additional award route options are opened up when you log into your United Mileage account to book award flights.
If you are eyeing an afford award ticket to Europe or South Africa, the Chase United MileagePlus Explorer should be at the top of your list. The bad part about this offer is, you will only get approved as long as you haven't applied for another Chase card recently.
